Pontiac Repair: pontiac firebird, pontiac firebird, check safety

Question
My 96 firebird won't start, it has a new battery and starter. Lights work etc... but it won't turn over. Could this be a relay, fuse , bad positive battery cable to starter. What do you think?

Answer
Hello steve, check the ignition switch on the steering column under the dash. it has a rod comeing from the key switch. that push the switch to start the car. also make sure it's going all the way in to park. if the switch is good and it is in park, then the check safety switch. this switch work with the transaxle shifter it is also under the dash. if its a manual it works with the clutch. but do clean the battery frist.
