I have a 95 pontiac sunfire 2.0 the car just died one day it had no power so we got a new alternator and battery when we stared the car it ran fine but the battery lite was on and didn't go off.The next day the car died again. It seems as if the car is only running off the battery alone. What could be the problem.
Answer -
sounds like a bad alternator. was it a used unit or a rebuilt one? make sure you have power at the big red wire on the back of the alt. no power there means you have a burnt fuseable link at the starter. with the engine running unplug the connector at the alt if the light goes out the alt is bad if not then there is a short on the L terminal, by the way in 95 the sunfire either came with a 2.2 or a 2.4 (quad 4) motor

Answer
Here is a diagram
http://us.f2.yahoofs.com/bc/412eb90f_c702/bc/My+Documents/58882924.gif?bf.yANBB.    use a test light connected to battery positive, with the connector unplugged from the alt and using the diagram touch the L terminal if the light comes on there is a short to ground. You may also have a bad computer. The L terminal if good should have 5 volts on it with the ignition on. If not and there is no short you have a bad PCM. Hope this helps, keep me posted
