Pontiac Repair: Part around the caliper/rotor, pontiac bonneville, unbearable noise

Question
'92 Pontiac Bonneville SE

I need to know the name of a part that is located on the flat disc side of the front rotors of the car.  It is connected to the caliper and looks kind of like a bracket.  The piece is about an inch in width, a few inches long (lies parallel to the rotor), but then bends inward (perpendicular to rotor) at the end.  I think this piece is rubbing against the rotor and creating a god-awful, unbearable noise.  I mainly just want to know the name of this piece, but if you can offer advice on how to fix it pressing against the rotor without destroying anything important, I would appreciate it.

Answer
It is the spindle. If it is touching the rotor, you have problems. Either the spindle is bent or you have the wrong rotors.
If the noise just started and you haven't done any brake work recently, it cant be a wrong rotor.
If you haven't wrecked the car, it is probably not a bent spindle.
Are you sure that the spindle is touching the rotor? Are you sure that the brake pads are not worn out? It could be a backing plate that is touching the rotor. If it is just bend it back away from the rotor.
