Pontiac Repair: 94 Pontiac Sunbird, 94 pontiac sunbird, pontiac sunbird

Question
My Sunbird keeps overheating, however my temerature gauge isn't showing that it is. After turning off the car it overheats so much that it won't start until it has cooled off. To do this, I must pour cold water over some pink tubing. It is a part with 4 tubes that head into the engine. When I do this, it steams, cools down, and then the car decides to work. What is this part, What is causing the overheating, and what should I be doing about it?
I'm afraid I don't know the engine size.
but it's a 94 Pontiac Sunbird
I've been told by many mechanics that they don't understand why I would have to pour water on the engine like this. The oil, and coolant are filled. I have no leaks what so ever, and the fan is working fine.

Answer
There aren't any pink tubes that I know of and I have been working on Pontiacs since 1985. Unless you are talking about the plug wires that may have been replaced with pink ones. I still dont know what the problem could be. Why dont you take it to the shop and have it diagnosed before you do some real serious engine damage. It is never a good idea to poor cold water on a hot engine. Aluminum parts like to crack when you do that.
