Pontiac Repair: 97 Grand Am Overheat, radiator cap, electric fan

Question
I have a 97 Grand Am that gets really hot when I run the air conditioner (hasn't completely overheated yet) in town.  On the highway it's fine but in town especially sitting at a stoplight it gets really hot and the air coming out of the vents warms as well.  How can I fix this problem?  I can hear the electric fan kick on when it gets so hot, but that doesn't help.  I have also taken a hose and sprayed through the radiator.  Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hello, you might want to check your Thermostat and your water pump and replace your radiator cap because when you sit at a stop light especially with the A/C running you make the motor run harder and if there is no air moving then you get hot. But I would check your water pump because that might not be moving enough water through your engine and Thermostat might be faulty and not letting any water into the motor. Thanks for writing
