Pontiac Repair: speedometer cable, haynes auto manual, pontiac bonneville

Question
I have a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville 88. The speedometer hand stopped working. I suspect a broken cable or a defective speed switch but I have'nt been able to locate either on the vehicle. I have a Haynes Auto Manual but I can't find anything that tells me where to locate the cable or switch or how to repair it. Can you offer me any advice? Thanks very much,
Eddie Champion

Answer
Hi, the cable is on the righ side of the transaxle. in the top of the transaxle, disconnect it from the trans and check the cable end it maybe worn, the cable end should be square, it will become rounded off, and have to be replace, If it has the speed sensor then check for a blowed fuse. If it not the fuse then the sensor is bad.
