Porsche Repair: porsche 911, porsche 911s, wide body kit

Hi Dave, I just receantly bought a 1971 porsche 911s    that was and is a basket case. It has no ingine or tranny. My question is, Can I put a high preformance vw engine in it. I cannot find an economical engine. I have built a couple semi-stock vw engines. I am not intirely concerned about going stock porsche either. I have even had some toughts about turbo charging this project. I also want to do some body mods such as a 968 body kit or a wide-body kit. can you offer any advise ?

On the engine question...go for it, you wouldn't be the first guy to consider this.

Your issue will be the transaxle.  The original transaxle would bolt right up to the VW engine and there... you'd be done.  

Without that original, you'll have to find a transaxle with the right dimensions...I'm primarily thinking about the length of the half-shafts...so they will reach the torsion arm mounting points.
