Porsche Repair: 1974 Porsche 914, porsche engine, 1974 porsche 914

I bought a 1974 porsche 914 from a relative and he doesn't know what kind of engine has, I am not familiar with this type of car and I've looked everywhere  and I've been unable to find the kind of motor. Please help! Thank you.

What a lucky guy you are...buying your first 914!  I hope it's in good shape...you'll really enjoy working on it and driving it.

As far as the engine goes, here's what you need to know:

There are two possibilities, one is that the car has a 1.8 liter four cylinder VW engine.  The other possibility is that it has a 2.0 liter six cylinder Porsche engine.  These 1.8 or 2.0 numerals may appear at the rear of the car as indentifying emblems.

One way to be sure what the car was built with is to verify the VIN #.  If you send the number to me, I'll let you know what was there when it was built and describe one of the two engines more fully.
