MY 83 944 WILL NOT START. I HEARD SNAP LIKE A FUSE BLOWN AND NOW IT WILL NOT RUN. ALL FUSES GOOD. 12V FROM DME TO COIL OK. BUT NEW COIL WILL NOT FIRE. I THINK DME UNIT IS BLOWN.HOW CAN I CHECK. 12V FROM FUEL/DME RELAY OK.

With the 12V+ you're finding moving through the DME to the coil and the fuel pump relay, your DME may actually be OK.  The amazing thing is each time the question is asked..."how can I test the DME", the answer is always..."well...put in a known good one and see if there's a difference".  As I said, amazing, but true.

The snap you heard could be any number of things, and like you, I would have looked at the fuses first. You also mentioned the 'new' coil.  Was it in place before you had this starting problem?
