Porsche Repair: Porsche 944, oil pressure guage, phillips screws

Question
I own a 1984 Porsche 944.  I am trying to access behind the center console to change the bulb in the oil pressure guage.  There are two phillips screws which appear to hold the console in place.  With those phillips screws removed the console still does not come apart.  Is there a trick I am not trying to access behind the console panel?

Answer
Edward,

When, it comes to Porsches, most of my experience is with 356's; but I've taken a number of different consoles apart.  Here are some general ideas that will likely apply to a 944 as well.

Console screws are usually found under arm rests, ash trays or ash tray frames.  Whenever there's a radio in the console, there are usually two screws above the radio that usually are only visible by a gear shift knob with eyes.  Likewise there may be two screws attaching the top edge of the console to the bottom of the dash.

Sometimes, in addition to screws, manufacturers use other techniques to secure console panels to each other.  Often, there are male and female connectors that join together when slid side to side, then the screws don't hold the panels together, they merely keep the stronger connectors together by not allowing movement.

I hope some of these ideas help.
