RV Repair: hi low camper repair, aluminum man, aluminum siding

Question
QUESTION: I had 2 blow outs on my 2009 HiLow camper this summer and damaged the camper behind the tires. The camper repair shop I am at tells me there is no repair parts for the camper. Where is a hi low repair expert located?
Thanks,
Terry

ANSWER: It is unfortunate that this happend to your Rv.  I don't know what make, and I don't know where the damage is.  Is it underneith?  Or is it the outside sheeting?  Do you have the ribbed type outside sheeting, or does it look ribbed like aluminum siding?  And I don't know the extent of the damage.

If your camper is smeared from the rubber, and has a few deep scratches in it, you can try go fill it with gel coat from a boat store.  The smears should rub off.

When the parts are not available, you have to resort to a 'bump and paint' frame of mind.  Maybe try a boat repair place, like at a marina, to see what they suggest.  I say boat repair because the camper store said NO already.  And the Rv is probably fiberglas.  I guess I need more description of the damage to make suggestions.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Following up on the first question and your reply...The camper is a 2009 Hi Low Special Edition. The damage is to the area behind the drivers side tire. The blow out literally crushed the area behind the wheel. It did not damage the plumbing but tore free a few small wires which look to be tank sensors. The opposite side is also affected but it appears to be damage only to the soft door which closes over the storage area. The camper repair shop told me they could fabricate the repair but it would be expensive. I wanted a second opinion. We are in Omaha, NE and want to know a reputable repair place close to us if you are aware of one.

Answer
I would say that a good RV repair shop is going to be expensive.  Do you think Comp insurance would cover this?

I would try finding a good carpenter in the area snd see if they can help you.  Or a good aluminum man.  The side sheeting is really just a form of formica.  The wires are easy to splice back together.

I live in Mich and don't know of anyone in your area.  Sorry about that.

good luck
