RV Repair: slide out, flagstaff forest river, cable pulleys

Question
QUESTION: slideout has moved an is rubbing against side of wall as it goes out or comes in on  one side at top, feel like something has shifted 2006 flagstaff forest river fifth wheel, thanks

ANSWER: Slides are not my specialty.  From what I understand, they have cables on the sides to help support the weight and keep it straight.  I do know pop-ups and they also have cables that raise the roof.  On those cable systems, the pulleys are cheesy and after a few years of moisture, they bend and twist.  This causes problems, some times bad ones.

Flagstaff pop-ups have had the most cable problems of all the ones I have seen.  The track pulls free from the floor and twists.  This puts the pulley in an improper position.

If your slide has cables, and I think they do, the cable pulleys may have bent on their tracks, or the track pulled out of the floor.  If that happened, you will need to pull the wall apart to repair them.  Be careful that you releive the tension on the cable before you do anything that may hurt you.  Cables under tension can get free and cut you.

Good luck

QUESTION: this is on a fifth wheel,is it possible that one side is coming in before the other causing it to be out of line. thanks

Answer
Under your slide, do you have one bar that slides in and out?  Or do you have two bars?

Like I say, slides are not my speciality.  But I know my slide has one bar that slides in and out.  Attached to this bar is another bar that runs the length of my floor of my slide.  Together these bars make a "T", if you were to look down at it from the sky.  From what I understand, these two bars have help supporting the weight of the slide by way of a cable on each side of the slide.  These cables from what I understand also help adjust the slide, so they  move evenly on each side.  I have never seen these cables, but I imagine they are similar to the side cables on some garage doors; that help the door go up and down... to take the strain off the garage door opener.

If you have these cables on the sides of your slide, I am guessing either the track and pulley may have a problem...or you may need to adjust the cables.

It is possible you don't have cables at all.  If that is the case, your slide track may have some play that allows the slide to become out of alignment.

Wish I could help you more.  Good luck.
