RV Repair: RV hot water heater, hot water heater, burner tube

Question
My hot water heater in the rv electric side works fine, when we switch it over to gas, it flames up in the panel outside. How can we fix this? Or do I need a new hot water heater?

Answer
OK try this if its an atwood then there will be a small nut on the burner tube that you can move that little vented part ( forward or backward to give it more or less air) it should sound like a small roar when it is working right. If that doesnt work then you may have something blocking the burner tube where the flame comes out. You may have to take it off and clean it but be sure to put the ignitor or the thing that makes sparks about 1/8 of an inch away from the burner opening. if  this doesnt fix it let me know and we will dig deeper but this usualy fixes it.

Thanks
