RV Repair: water heater lights flame coming outword, rv need, emery cloth

QUESTION: water heater will not light it sparks but will not light. can smell the propane so it is getting fuel. its a attwood electric start ignition. dont know what to do, we live in this rv need hot water to shower please help

ANSWER: Ok if you can get passed my spelling we'll do ok  first  make sure the spark or the clicking you hear, is arcking or sparking to the end of the tube where the flame comes out should be about 1/4 to 1/8  of an inch away. Second if the electrode ( the thing making the spark) is dirty. You may have to take it out  and clean it you can GENTLY use emery cloth , fingernail file ,sos pad, or the green scrub side of a dry sponge. Don't over do the cleaning. try this if no help please contact me again

QUESTION: okay now it lights without me doing anything to it. but now when it does get lit the flame comes outword instead of going into the water heater so i had to run inside and shut it off cuz the flame was going right over the board. so what do i do now? this is a geat site, free and u respond so fast thank u so so much

Ok now there are 3 things that can cause this problem 1 there is a small bolt or screw on the round burner tube it has some slots in it you can mave that forward or back ward to adj the flame. 2 their cound be some thing blocking the burner tube ie spinder wasp dirt you my have to clean it out to. 3 could be low on lp chack the bottles and the stove to see if buring correctly . its 11:00 here fixing to go to bed if not right try again in am will help some more
