RV Repair: Slider Repair, 5th wheel, thin pieces

Question
I recently purchased a 2001 Holiday Rambler Alumascape 5th Wheel.  The skin on the underside of both sliders drooped slightly and the front edge was open.  The seller had a handyman repair done and now the skin is cracked and broken.  It appears this skin was a one piece item that extends inside the trailer even when the slide out is extended. It resembles a sheet of formica. Any suggestions on what might have caused original problem and an economical fix?

Answer
Jon, I am sorry that has happened. They usually do extend into the coach and it is what the slide runs in and out on. I don't see any easy fix for this and would call Monaco to see if they have replacement material available. If so it might be better to take it somewhere to be repaired but if you feel up to it you might be able to do it yourself. That would depend on what all you can do. Let me know and I will do my best to talk you through what needs to be done. Basically it will be to remove the one and replace it with the new one. That is also depending on how bad the cracks are. You might be able to patch with thin pieces of plastic if they are not too big. Thanks, Bill
