Question
QUESTION: I bought and older coachmen camper and the previous owner said that there was a problem with the heater. he said it stays on and the thermostat would not shut it down or regulate the temp.the heater is a duo therm heater and I check continuity at the heater itself and found that there is a connection at all times what can you recommend and if you require further info on this heater i will find as much as i can for you. it looks like the stock heater, its in a coachmen 11FD camper and its a duo therm heater

ANSWER: Lance, There will be 2 connections there with continuity. They will be the red or positive wire and one of the blue wires. What you want to check for is to see if there is continuity between the 2 blue wires or the wires that go to the T-Stat. I would pull the T-Stat and disconnect it and see if it continues to run. If not then replace the T-Stat. If it does then there is a problem with the way it is wired and if you can describe to me the way it is wired then I can help you through the rest. There should be 4 wires going to the furnace. I will need to know colors of each, coming from the coach and then from the furnace. Thanks, Bill

QUESTION: Hi Bill
the easiest way for you to see what I am looking at is to "make 4 dots vertical" the top dot(stud 1) will be a red wire and the second is a white wire which is a bridged wire to the 3rd and its is a white wire and the 4th is red. the wires at studs 3 and 4 are coming from the T-stat. wires at studs 1 and 2 are connected to some kind of thermal coupler that is located in the heating chamber but what has me confused is that there is a thermal coupler above the one i mentioned and it has the gas line going to it. now these wires are all connected to the, I guess, controller. if you would like I will get the model #65515-003 and it is an ITT General Control, control unit
Thanks

Answer
Lance, The 2 wires that are connected together are by the way you describe it the ground wires and the other 2 are the hot wires. You will need to hook 2 to the T-Stat and the others to pos and neg. One to the stat will be a pos and the other one just completes the circuit and goes to ground. I hope that this helps you. Thanks, Bill
