RV Repair: Laminate flooring, tongue and groove flooring, tongue and groove

Question
Hi, we have a 1987 Laze Daze RV that we want to restore, it is in very good shape except for the flooring and the upolstry need to be redone. We are surfers and are at the beach primarily. The carpet is brown and needs to be cleaned constantly. I would like to replace the carpet with a bamboo laminate, if this exists, if not any wood look would suffice. I need a how to on istallation, floating, and a good underlying pad choice, any info would help, thanks

Answer
Raylene, When any wood floor or even vinyl floor is put in a coach they float them in. They make a tongue and groove flooring that you only have to pin nail down. Remember that when you pull the carpet more than likely it goes under the walls and cabinets so you will have to cut it out. Do not glue anything to the floor if it is made with O.S.B. or oriental strand board as this soaks up whatever you put on it and starts to deteriorate and causes the floor to separate and then you have a real bad mess. With wood I don't know of a pad they put down, and as far as a bamboo layment to put down, I can only tell you that the best place to find out is at a Flooring Store. They know all the new products and can direct you in the best direction. Thanks, Bill
