RV Repair: wiring to battery on Jayco Eagle 328rls, jayco eagle, rv battery

Question
I charged my RV battery up at my house and went to reinstall it and realized that I didn't understand which wires went where. (I look for black to be neg and red to be pos).
One wire is white (I assumed incorrectly that it went to neg). The other two are taped together but have separate leads. This other group of wires that has two leads has one white, two black, and one green that says 30 amp service. I connected both of these to positive first and then connected the white wire to negative.
And I guessed wrong because they heated up and started melting. I burned my fingers trying to get the wing nuts off to stop the process. I was going to reverse the process (hook the single white lead to positive and the other two leads to negative) and thought I better stop and ask someone because even though the group with two leads seems to be taped together, it might be possible that they should be split between pos and neg terminals. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Answer
Hi there Jim
RV/12vdc wire colors can be confusing.
Heres a rule..."Red is hot and white is not".
Now heres where it gets weird...GROUND (12vdc negative) can be..white,black, green or even yellow.
POSITIVE can be black, red or blue..but never should it be white.

Remember all wires contain smoke...don't let it out.
