RV Repair: Dometic RM2611 Refrigerator, propane regulator, robert becker

Question
I purchased a 1993 camper last summer and the refrigerator works great on 120 volt, but will not stay running on propane. It starts on propane and may run 5 to 30 minutes before the check light comes on. It will start again, but the problem just repeats itself. I've been told that I need to replace the circuit board. If so, where is the board located and does it just plug in? If it doesn't plug in, is soldering required? The previous owner said they never had any problems with it. Also, can you recommend a supplier for purchasing the parts?

I would also like to purchase a new propane regulator with separate on and off valves for each tank. Can you recommend where I might find something like this?

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Well Robert the person that told you about the board replacement is probably correct. Dometic changed the boards for those refrigerators several times and made modifications. Let's just say they were a troublesome board. I always recommend to everyone that when replacement time comes install a Dinosaur Power Board. The reason for that is they have a 3 year warranty replacement and the OEM boards only have a 1 year, as well as they are usually a few dollars cheaper. But before you just replace the board make sure that the burner is clean of debris and that the propane pressure is correct and 11 to 11 1/2 water column inches. The replacement board I referred to has a wiring sheet that comes in the box and is fairly easy to understand. Off the top of my head I think there is about 9 wires that hook to the board. The new one calls for an extra ground wire that is about 5 or 6 inches. If you have any trouble wiring it I can run you through where each wire comes from and where it goes. The model of Board replacement is a micro P-711 from Dinosaur. You can get these at most RV repair shops but if you have any trouble locating one let me know and I can order whatever you need. The regulator won't have on/ off valves for each tank but they do separate the tanks to allow one to be removed from the system so it can be refilled without any interruption in your service. One last thing on the refer, whenever you are parked for 30 minutes or more and have it turned on make sure the coach is level, or within 3 degrees of being level. To check that the coach is level purchase a omni- directional level. They are about 1 to 2 inches and are round. Put it in the freezer shelf and level the coach to that. The reason I say this is because if they are run out of level bad things can happen and in a short time. If a bad thing does happen it is usually the cooling unit that is damaged and they cost somewhere between 600.00 and 900.00 to replace. Sometimes even a bit more, and the new replacement ones just might not fit into the same hole and might need modified as well. Thanks, Bill
