RV Repair: Onan Micro Quite 4000 Generator, stop screw, service person

Question
My generator acts like its starving for fuel. It will start, run for 15 - 20 seconds and then die. I've had a code 14 & 36(both code state to take to dealer) appear. Code 14 is the only code that blinks on the start button now. I have no idea what either of these codes mean. An onan service person told me to try changing the fuel filter first because that usually fixes the problem. However, that didn't work. The fuel filter and spark plug are new, I've cleaned the air filter,  made sure that fuel is in the tank, and plenty oil is in the engine. What does these codes mean and what steps do I need to take to correct the problem?
Thank You, Larry

Answer
Hi Larry
Thanks for the Q?
Code 14 is a "over frequency" code letting you know the Generator is running too fast..too high of rpm.
When it senses "overrun" it will shut down to protect itself from producing too high of voltage. The solution is either in the a gummed up carburetor, the governor or someone has tampered with the idle stop screw and set it too high.
The rpm needs to be set at between 58 and 62 hertz and can be done with a multi-meter.
But you may need to see your local RV tech for professional help.
Generators can be challenging.
