RV Repair: Ventline Ventadome, holiday rambler, northern breeze

Question
A 2004 Holiday Rambler has a Ventadome by Ventline as a ceiling vent, which is powered by 12VDC. The fan is a Northern Breeze model V2505. The fan quits working after being stuck on high speed once. The manufacturer has replaced the fan and the controller circuit board 3 times, but the same problem keeps happening. The Ventline people have said that the problem isn't their system and that the input to the fan might need a filter. Does this sound right, and if so what should I do? The converter output on the RV is a little high (it is supposed to be 13.6Vdc +/- .7 and it is reading 14.78). Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks, Carol

Answer
Hi Carol, I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was out of town. Yes. The 14.78 is a bit on the high side. But, most of the electronics are designed to work up to 15 volts. Have some computer geek solder in a resistor that will only allow 12.5 volts through to the fan. If the fan circuit board is being over loaded with voltage. Then the resistor should stop your problem. Good Luck.
