RV Repair: Suburban Furnace, time delay relay, dirt dobber

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1978 Argosy with a suburban nt30. I can get the the pilot to light, but that is as far as I can go. When I adjust the thermostat all it does is click. The fan or the furnace doesn't come on. I pulled the assembly out and removed the dirt dobber nests but still the same problem. The fan turned when I had it out but it will not blow. Any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hi Bozo. This may sound easy, but did you check the fuse? The T stat will click even with no 12 volt. This sounds like a no power problem. Let me know how it turns out. Good Luck.

QUESTION: Shawn, fuse ok. What I hear clicking is the switch next to the squirrel cage. Is this what you refer to as the sail switch? What is its function? Should the fan run as long as is has a hot and grd. wire or is this switch a safety device. We'll try again, thanx. Bozo.

Answer
Yes, the motor should run with hot and Ground going to it. The sail switch sits inside the squirrel cage. Its is hidden from view unless you have it apart. The air flow across the paddle engages it and allows the power through to the board. Even if the sail switch is bad....the motor still runs. The switch you hear clicking may be the time delay relay. If your motor will run when you jump power to it, then its a good bet the time delay relay is bad. Good Luck.
