RV Repair: 86 toyota dolphin chasis/frame repair, toyota dolphin, frame repair

Question
I have hit one to many potholes in my Dolphin and the main support going back from the drivers side has a crack in it right in front of the back wheels by the shock. This has caused the structural integrity to be compramised. The sides (which were never suported to good in the first place on these dolphins) have began to sag down a bit and one of the walls looks like it has seperated from the floor and is bowing out. I have been told that I can jack up the underside to where it is level and weld new support beams out out the sides to straiten them. Also at the same time welding a plate to repair the crack in the main frame. I was told that this would pull the wall back in and that it should be functional after that. I would like your advice on how easy this problem will be to fix and if I should take the time to do it, or if I should just get rid of the motorhome? Thanks for your advice.

Answer
That is exactly what I would have suggested. We do the same thing on fifthwheels all the time. 2 things to keep in mind though.
1) Unless you are an experienced welder/frame guy, then I would let a professional do the welding.
2) Go very slowly when you jack it up and look for places that might be cracking or whatever. This probably won't happen if it's been this way a while, but keep an eye out for it. Maybe have someone inside as you raise it.
Hope this helps you,
Dave
