RV Repair: refrigerator, side doors, camping world

Question
The fridge in our Terry resort Model rm2501 smells like ammonia when we turn it on.  A repair service in our area says we need a new fridge.  Replacement would be $900.00 for the part alone.  Does this sound reasonable to you?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Jean:

Yes the diagnosis is correct. Usually when ammonia is detected, the cooling unit cannot easily be repaired. The price quote you recieved, was that for a cooling unit, using part of your existing refrigerator, or was it for a new refrigerator?

Camping World sells many type of refrigerators, etc. They are certainly cheaper than that, unless your refrigerator is one of the deluxe model with side by side doors, etc. but for just a basic refrigerator with ice maker should be less than your quote.

You can find them at www.campingworld.com or you can search for a store near you. I personally have dealt with them for many years and have found them to be reasonable with prices.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.
