Saab Repair: 1984 Saab 900 Turbo, saab 900, knowledgeable folks

Question
The outside rear view mirrors on my sons car are loose and they rattle.  Any idea what is wrong and how I can fix this?  I looked at the mirrors to try to figure out how they are attached / can be removed but I could not determine this.
