Saturn Repair: starting problem, pump fuel, fuel pump

Question
I have a 2000 SL1 with about 50,000 miles on it. Everything was fine and then one night I was driving, stopped for five minutes at a store, and when I started the car up, within one second, the RPMs went down to almost zero, I could barely drive the car a few inches, power steering was out and service engine and battery lights were on. I turned it off, tried again, same thing.  On the third try it worked fine. I took it in for servicing, they did a battery/alternator diagnostic and said everything was fine, and since they couldn't duplicate the problem there is nothing they could do, although they thought it could be the alternator starting to give out.  Any ideas?

Answer
Ben,
Please read my post titled "Fuel pump, fuel pump, fuel pump!"  Anyway, that's what is wrong with your vehicle.  If I'm wrong I'll eat this e-mail, but I'm sure it's a fuel pump.  The problem will just happen out of nowhere, and there's nothing you can do but have the fuel pump replaced.  Hope this helps.
