Saturn Repair: 2001 saturn ls200 - starting/electrical problem, strange error message, key fobs

Question
Chris,
Thanks for the response. You are correct that it was the BCM. My mechanic ended up having to take the car to a Saturn dealer in order to replace it and reprogram the BCM. The only problem I am having is that the remote no longer works which besides for the nuisance factor of having to manually unlock the car also controls the security. The dealership was unable Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help.

Chris,
I am not sure if my previous question went through, I got a strange error message on my screen.
I noticed that you recently answered a question regarding a Saturn that would not start. Last night I went to start my car and it was completely dead. I had a tow truck give me a boost. The engine turned over but would not start. The other strange thing is that there were a number of electrical items that did not work. I was unable to use the automatic locks or "pop" the trunk from either inside the car or using the remote. In addition, the interior lights in the car would not go on.

Thanks for your help.

David,
Go to your local Saturn facility and have them check the BCM.  Anytime you find some kind of strange electrical behavior from your L-series, you can almost bet that it will involve the Body Control Module.  Let me know how it comes out.

Answer
David,
First, replace the batteries in your transmitters.  Then, take your vehicle back to the Saturn facility and insist that they reprogram the key fobs.  That is the last step in the BCM replacement process and they KNOW that.  Unless your transmitters are just completely inop, the facility should be able to reprogram them (reprogramming the transmitters is something that they should not charge you for after replacing the BCM, I never charged for it).
