Saturn Repair: gas pedal sticking on Saturn SL1, fuel injection service, saturn vehicles

Question
My car is a 1999 Saturn SL1.  Lately the gas pedal is sticking.  Sometimes I have to step on it very hard to make the gas pedal go down.  It does not stick and stay down.  It does not happen when I am driving, only when I first start off.  This is beginning to happen every time I try to drive.

Answer
Margaret,
This is a common condition in Saturn Vehicles.  The throttle body needs to be cleaned out.  The throttle body is located where the black air intake tube meets the silver intake manifold.  If you pull that tube off, you will see the throttle body and the plate.  If you turn your ignition off, remove the black hose, open the throttle body with your hand and clean around where the "butterfly" meets the sides of the throttle body, you should no longer have that problem.  If you  don't want to do it yourself you can take it to a repair facility.  A reputable repair facility can do what is called a fuel injection service, which includes them cleaning out your throttle body.  The service shoudn't cost any more than $60-$100, depending on where you are.  Anyway, if they do the service right, your problem will go away.  Hope this helps.
