Saturn Repair: White/gray smoke from dash board., gray smoke, dash board

Question
97 SL1 Saturn
Started car. Drove 25 feet and had to shut off ignition and leave as the interior filled with white/gray smoke.  It was night time and headlights/possibly radio were on.
I heard a rumor that the dimmer switch may cause this when it burns out.  Mechanic drove next morning and no more smoke problems. No recent mechanical work performed on this vehicle. I have had the buzzer going on when I opened the door without the key in the ignition for the last 6 months. The ignition buzzer didn't sound off as it usually does the night of the interior smoke problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Answer
J,

IGNITION SWITCH, and get it replaced quick!  The longer you wait, the more possible damage you could do to your wiring harness.  Please, get that looked at quick, otherwise you could be looking at a lot of money.  The 97 was bad about that!
