Saturn Repair: stalling, fuel pump relay, 2000 saturn sl2

Question
The auto is a 2000 Saturn SL2 with a 3.0L engine and automatic trans. The car will run for about 10 minutes and then stop. It will start again after about 10 minutes. The fuel pump has been replaced because it would not run when the car shut down. In checking, I noticed that the main relay, which powers the fuel pump relay, would heat up and then the car would stall. Closer observation verified that the fuel pump relay also heats up. I have checked for excess resistance in the circuit but I cant't find any. I wonder if you could shed some light on this problem for me.

Answer
James,
I'm about to tell you something that you probably don't want to hear.  If I were you, I'd find my way back to the parts store and let them take a fuel pump off my hands in exchange for a new one.  But first, here are a couple of things that you can do in the interim.  Put a test light on the power circuit of the fuel pump.  Not the easiest of tasks, but I believe that you will find the harness for the fuel pump along the passenger side frame rail.  The voltage supply circuit is gray in color, with ground being black.  (at least it is on the 2001+, GM used more than one different harness in 2000).  Make sure power and ground circuits are good, and then replace the fuel pump.
I need to ask if you got your fuel pump at a parts store, or through a Saturn Facility.  I have not found ANY aftermarket fuel pump that will work in a Saturn L-Series.  I know that the unit itself is pricey at Saturn, but it will save you headaches later on.  Unless you have underlying issues (security system, bad fuel) I would have to say that the fuel pump is your problem.  Please let me know how this turns out, I am interested.
