Saturn Repair: trans saturn sl2, saturn sl2, 5th gear

Question
i have a 96 saturn sl2 and every now and then when you are in third, fourth, or fifth gear it slips under acceleration...i have 175,000 miles on it...it only does it every now and then...not that often. is there anything i can change to stop this.

Answer
Cynthia,
First, you did not tell me if your transmission is an automatic or manual.  I am asuming since you said it will slip under acceleration in "5th" gear that it is a manual.  If you haven't replaced the clutch by 175k miles, it's time to do so now.  There is nothing you can do to stop this, as there is probably not enough clutch material left to salvage the clutch.  If you got that many miles out of your vehicle without ever having replaced the clutch, I think you got your money's worth.  Anyway, that's what I would do. Hope this helps.
