Saturn Repair: tensioner not keeping serpentine belt tight, uncommon situation, serpentine belt

Question
This question wasn't answered by the last saturn expert very well and I was wondering if you might be able to expand on it.

My tensioner is no longer keeping the serpentine belt tight and I was wondering if you knew what would be entailed in servicing/repairing/replacing the tensioner.

It was mentioned by the previous expert that this was becoming a not uncommon situation.   Thanks very much

Answer
Jon,
I assume you are speaking of a 1.9L SOHC or DOHC.  The procedure is generally the same for both engines, the SOHC offers a little more room in the engine bay for large-handed people like me.  Anyway, follow along with me to replace that tensioner.
1. Place a floor jack with a wood block under the oil-pan.  You're not supposed to do this, but it gets the job done easier, and with less headache. Make sure you put some tension on the jack so that the engine doesn't fall too much during the next procedure.
2. Using a 15-mm socket, remove 5 nuts that hold the top engine mount in place and remove the engine mount.  The mount is the black "U" shaped mount by the cam cover on the passenger side.
3. Remove serpentine belt using 14-mm wrench.
4. Use 10-mm socket to remove the tensioner (one bolt on top and one bolt on bottom of the tensioner)
5. Make sure you put the tensioner on the correct way (idler pulley pointed toward the radiator)
6. Reverse the process to re-assemble.
Hope this helps,
Chris
