Saturn Repair: timing chain makers, timing chain, crankshaft

Question
I need to know the makers for my timing chain on a 1993 saturn. How to line them up?

Answer
Hi Robert,
Thanks for asking.  To be honest, there are two different marks depending on the engine.  Two different SL2 engines were in production.  While nearly identical, the timing marks differ. They SHOULD be marked VERY CLEARLY along the edges of the two Cams and along the edge of the Crankshaft.  All three will only line up correctly at the correct psoition in the rotation.  If the belt is broken and you have to re-set the marks, the smartest thing to do is get the Hayes Manual for the car.  It is VERY WELL Written and covers the issue well.
Sorry I can't offer more help, I would hate to tell you one thing and have it be the other!  The $15 spent on the Hayes manual will be well worth it!  I rebuilt and replaced the entire engine with only that manual as a guide!

Thanks forasking,
Greg Moore
