Saturn Repair: T.P.S.?, 1995 saturn sc2, throttle position sensor

Question
Hi again Greg, Thanks for your answer about oil on the plugs. It turned out to be a dumb thing. The previous owner spilled oil on the valve cover and it seeped into the plug holes. I cleaned them out and put in new plugs and wires. I've pulled them after 4 separate runs at different times. Plugs perfectly dry. To refresh your memory I have a 1995 Saturn SC2 with the 1.9L DOHC. What I'm looking at now is: at initial gas petal pressure there's a sticky throttle and spotty performance at low speeds. It functions perfectly under a load. I've lubed the throttle cable and the pivot point to within an inch of drowning them and the stickiness is decreased, but not much.Without a load the engine seems to have a slight buck and surge, not what you'd classify as a "miss". I thought maybe throttle position sensor? Also, I assume the other cable activated by the throttle is for the transmission. That is awfully sloppy and the "barrel" at the top of the accelerator is quite loose. I hope you have some input for me. Thanks in advance in any event. Bill B.

Answer
I am glad to hear the problem wasn't really a problem, after all!  That's great.  As for the Slight hesitation at the low speed, I know it well.  I currenlty have a similar symptom  but mine is more of a sticking that cause the engine to idle high and often even causes the car to hold a speed limit of 40MPH!  I was able to cure most of it with the same technique...lubricating the throttle cable AND Throttle body where the cable connects to it COMPLETELY (it takes several times to fully remove the crud that builds up) and Shooting 'Carb  cleaner' in to the air intake while it is running BUT, I can't seem to get rid of the 'slop' or keep it freed up for more than a week or so...it may be that the throttle body opening is letting air through becuase it is worn or has built up carbon deposits on the inside.  I'll see if I can find out more info for you.  Keep me up to date, if you want. THanks, Greg
