Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Spark issue

I work for a concrete company as a mechanic and I have a 16 hp kohler that we just built and it has a odd issue. It has a hot spark until I hook it to a spark plug. Then it's not enough fire to run the engine. Iv been messing with it on and off for about a week and it's kicking my butt.. Any ideas or have u ever seen this issue?

Yes, once.  What is the engine model and spec number?

Do you have a coil similar to an older style automotive coil or do you have a one piece module with an integrated electronic ignition?

What is the flywheel to coil air gap?

Does the engine have points?
