Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere Mower 285

i have a liquid cooled John Deere 285 Mower it will start and run for a few seconds up to about a minute at time. I have replaced fuel pump all fuel lines and filter .Removed fuel cap and still does this even when fully choked.
do you have any suggestions of what it might be, After it stops i leave it set for a few seconds and it will start and then die.

Do you have the Kawasaki FD590V engine?  If so, you can find the service manual at the URL below:

Have you replaced the spark plugs?  I recently forgot this simple tip and spent hours on a chainsaw trying to figure out why it would start and run for a couple of minutes and then die.  New $4.00 NGK spark plug fixed it...along with almost 6 hours of labor for a 1 minute fix.

Replace the plugs and see if that helps.
