Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray Mower transmission, wheel bearing grease, bronze bearings

Question
Hey Ben Fellow Expert and Vet,
I have a 1998 Murray Model #42544x8B that is having hicups when reverse is concerned.  Is there an adjustment that can be made to fix this.  It goes in all other gears but sometimes locks in neutral but will always go back into forward but reverse is getting no movement, once in a while it will shift but getting less and less.
Appreciate you,
Carolyn

There is a adjustment bracket in the rear of the tractor That needs to be checked, also check the belts to see if they are loose  there's two belts on the mower one for the blades and one that will be right under the motor for the power to the transmission. Also the shift keys can get wore on the very ends and cause your problem they are not hard to take out.
you just lift both shafts out together they are attached together with a roller chain.
take them apart and lay them down in order and when you assemble it just do everything in reverse. You can just use regular wheel bearing grease in a tube for lubrication.
when you reassemble shafts the bronze bearings have tabs that need to be in the right location to lock the shafts in the right location.
you also need to check main pinion drive gear and driven gear for wear . also the bearings on shaft for main drive gear.
