Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): older snapper riding mower, honda motor, snapper riding mower

Just bought a used snapper riding mower withrear honda motor,and handle bars not steering wheel. Ran good for little bit but now doesnt seem to idle high enough to keep started. Any ideas

Dirty air filter?  Has the carburetor been dis-assembled and cleaned?  If not I would start by cleaning the carb.  Blow compressed air from an air compressor through all the carb orifices.  Re-install and see how it runs.

Does it run fine on full speed?
