Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): husqvarna mower, husqvarna mower, kohler engine

179cc mower. started up first time this year.ran for 30 sec.shut off . started up again .same thing. put fresh gas in . starts with ether only now. carb float bowl had what looked like sugar in it. removed float bowl and blew fuel lines out. carb has a rod that goes across top. do not know how to remove to clean carb. kohler engine model 917.384514

Did you download the service manual from Kohler's website?

The service does a good job covering repairs but it does not describe step-by-step carb cleaning as the manual expects technicians to know the basic procedure.

Your engine should be a Courage XT series.  There are lots of You Tube videos on cleaning lawn mower carbs.  The basic procedures are the same...remove, dis-assemble, blow compressed air through all the carb holes.  Usually replace inlet needle and seat.  Re-assemble and install.

I would take several pictures of the carburetor connecting linkages/rods before and as you dis-assemble so you know how to re-connect them.
