Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): chargin system, volt output, engine numbers

Question
my riding lawnmower only charges about 21.5 does that mean alt is bad I have to keep recharging battery do you need a pulley to remove flywheel?

Answer
Hi Kenny

In order to answer this question  you will need to let me know  what the make and model of the riding mower is  and the engine brand  and model & type codes fromt the engine
numbers could be either on a sticker on the engine or stamped into a cover or on a metal plate fixed to the engine

as far as 21.5 goes is this a/c volts  from stator ouput or  volts @ battery  while engine is running ?

here is general rule of thumb  - stator a/c volt output could be anywhere from  21 volt to 40 volt a/c depending on engine brand & model    d/c output should be  about 2 volts higher than battery voltage   that is   13 volt + approx 2 volt    makes it about 14.5 to 15 volt @ battery if  charging system is working

but let me know brand and model of mower  and make and model type codes from engine  and i will help further

cheers  paul
