This carb is no longer available.  Can you tell me what I should replace it with?  Thank you for your assistance...

Tom can you give model & Type codes from the briggs engine that you have ?
from surfing a little  it may be model 195437 - ????-??



but from what you tell me  i'll try to help you out now  
i suspect  its large  2 piece flo jet , it may very well accept part number 390323  from another type code engine such as 195437-0292    which has a 390323  carb on it
changing from oem to different carb  Ie  large walbro side draft type  ( these can be  large or small and depends on engine size )  things to consider are -:  air intake  diameter
& venturi  size   and jet sizing  and throttle and gov linkage / control  systems

its also used on  Disassembly, Cleaning and Repair of Medium Two-piece Flo-jet Carb (390323) on Briggs and Stratton Engine Model 195437 Type 0292

Briggs carb part numbers 293950, 390323, 394228, 394514   used on selected Models 146400, 146401, 146402, 146403, 146404, 146407, 146411, 146412, 146414, 146431, 146432, 146434, 146437, 146451, 146452, 146457 etc etc to name a few
