Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Problem with Craftsman Mower Throttle, throttle kit, home depot

Question
I have a 3 year old Craftsman mower, mode; 247.38520 with an automatic throttle.  In the past few weeks it's been shutting off and I noticed the spring for the throttle seemed very weak.  I tried replacing the spring but the only one I could find I think is too strong.  The engine seems to be revving faster and the auto throttle is still trying to shut down the engine.  My question is, could I disconnect the auto throttle and replace it with a manual one with a universal throttle kit from Home Depot or Lowes ?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Sincerely,
Mike.

Answer
Do you have a Briggs engine model 10T802-3776-B1?

When you mention auto throttle, are you referrring to the governor system?  If so, DO not disconnect the springs.

Have cleaned the carburetor?  Have you looked on You Tube for carb cleaning videos?

Here are some links I found on You Tube.

My bet is the carb is dirty and causing all your problems.  99.999% sure as this is very, very common.
