Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sears Model 536906300 dual stage snowthrower, searspartsdirect, model craftsman

Eric, my dad gave me a Sears model 536906300 dual stage snowthrower. It has been sitting since about 1984 in his garage up north. He told me it was serviced before putting it away and was working fine. I checked the oil its very clean put some gas in it and it started on the first pull. It sounds just fine runs great but trying to put it in gear it stalls. Trying to engage the auger will also cause it to stall. I don't know of any safety switches that might have to be engaged before moving the machine. I do not have the service manual or owners manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The link above should take you to the parts diagram.  I see there are several chains and a couple of switches on the unit.

Are the belts and chains in good condition?  Can you turn the snowblower pulleys by hand or are they binding when in drive and the auger engaged?
