Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): carb. problem, briggs and stratton, briggs stratton

Question
QUESTION: dear sir my riding mower is a craftsman 19.5 hp. briggs and stratton engine, model 42e707. My carburetor model is briggs & stratton 692812  27-531  9y22. My problem is the engine will not idle, without the choke 3/4 of the way out. I took the carb. apart and put a overhaul kit, cleaned it blew out the entire carb. and also the fuel pump. I put it back but still does not idle without the choke 3/4 of the way out. I noticed that the idle mixture screw was missing, from the bottom of the carb. can this part be replaced or do i have to order another carburator? I would appreciate any help on this matter please, thank you.

ANSWER: Most can be replaced.  What is the engine type number?

QUESTION: eric that briggs and stratton engine is type 2631-E3. I appreciate your quick response to my question. Is there anything else I can check at this point?

Answer
The link below should take you to the parts list:

http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=briggs_and_stratton&mn=42E707-2631-E3&dn=1102

I did not see the carb part number 692812.

Based on the parts list there are 2 carbs.  3 bolt or 4 bolt.

Check to see which carb you have and order the correct pilot jet for your carb.  Can you plug the hole, temporarily, and see if the engine will idle without the choke being closed?
