Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD Lawn Mower Repair, engine model type, lawn mower repair

Question
Hello,

I have an MTD Model 50MB push mower.  It has a 139cc OHV engine.  The mower wouldn't start so I cleaned the carburetor.  I'm used to the bolt holding the float cap on having jets.  This one didn't.  Instead there was a threaded tube up the center of the carb and a brass piece with a jet in the center.  I unscrewed the brass piece and clean it and the tube thoroughly.  However, when re-installing I realized that I didn't know if this brass piece gets tightened all of the way or is backed off a bit.  The mower now starts and runs even with the choke closed but it definitely runs more roughly in the "run" position.  It runs fine when the choke is pulled out.  Do you know if that brass jet needs to be adjusted?  Or other ideas?

Thanks,
Jay

Answer
Do you have a Briggs or Tecumseh or Kohler engine?  I need the engine model, type and serial/spec number to look up your carb.

Send me the engine info and if you attach a picture of the carb and I can tell if the carb is adjustable.

Did you blow compressed air from an air compressor through all the carb holes when you cleaned it?  Sounds like the carb is still dirty.
