Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Repair, wd 40, volt meter

Question
I have a John Deere 335 mower and the when I started it, the starter was trying to re-engage.  I took the starter off and sprayed some WD 40 on the gear.  Now the starter will not disengage.  After it starts I can remove the small plug on the starter and it disengages.  What's wrong?  I think its the ignition switch or the circuit board.

Thanks,
Michael

You may have a Bad Ignition Switch or a bad solenoid. The problem you are having is that electrical current is staying applied to the starter after you turn the key from the start position to the on position or is it that the starter gear is sticking against the flywheel? Do you have access to a volt meter?Try spraying the solenoid with a Non Flammable lubricant.
