Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD L110 Starting problem, cable ends, battery terminals

Question
I have a John Deere L 110 lawn mower that I am having problems with. This spring I put a new battery in it and it started right up. When I went out to start it yesterday it would not start, just made a repetitive clicking sound, wouldn't even crank over. So I took an extra car battery that I had sitting around and and jumped it with my cables and it started right up. I proceded to mow the yard and when I finished I turned it off and tried starting it again. The same repetitive clicking clicking sound began again and the engine wouldn't even crank. What is the issue? Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
Did you clean the battery terminals and cable ends before connecting the new battery?

I would dis-connect the battery, charge it with a low amp charger, and then load test the battery to verify it is good.

Then, when you know the battery is good, I would clean the battery terminals and battery cable ends with a wirebrush and re-connect the battery.  I have fixed a lot of mowers just by cleaning the connections.

Let me know if cleaning the connections and charging the battery helps.
