Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 917-289260 Rider Mower, craftsman 917, solenoid

Question
I have a Craftsman 917-289260 Rider Mower. It wont start unless I give it a shot of starting fluid. Once started it functions perfectly. After running when still warm will start on its own. It will never cold start without that shot of starting fluid.

Answer
Look on the bottom of the carburetor.  Do you see a wire or wires running to the bottom of the carburetor?  If so, you have an anti-afterfire solenoid on the carburetor.  The anti-afterfire solenoid may be malfunction or may not be recieving power or ground.  If the solenoid is not opening the engine will never start cold as the solenoid is shutting off the fuel.

Let me know if you have an anti-afterfire solenoid on the carburetor.
