Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Wake Up an Old Riding Mower?, ohv engine, tractor model

Question
Ben,

I have a Craftsman 42" garden tractor model # 917.272051 with a Kohler 16 OHV engine purchased about 2001 and used about 3 seasons.  It has been parked inside at room temp ever since.  Three of the 4 tires have gone flat and the battery died and has been removed.
Questions: 1.  Is it cost effective to try to rehab and use it?
2. What needs to be done before trying the engine?
3. Are the tires pretty generic or specific to Craftsman?

Many thanks for the info!  I really appreciate it.

if I was you I would keep the mower get yourself a new battery and some fix a flat, they also make a solution that you can put it tractor tire to keep them from going flat. Usually when the tires go flat is because they have picked up a small puncture or they are leaking around the valve stem,if this is a tubeless i would go buy tubes to put it in the tire. Just make sure you check for any type of puncture that may be a nail or something else.
