ANSWER: Did you check to see if spark was present at the spark plug? There might be a safety switch preventing spark.

QUESTION: not quite sure how to check spark plug. Do I remove the cap wire and hold close to spark plug and then turn key and see if I get a spsrk?

the only safety switch I no of is the pto switch and that is in on position or else the motor will not crank

ANSWER: Remove the spark plug from the engine.  Re-connect the spark plug to the spark plug wire.  While holding the end of the spark plug to a metal engine part crank the engine and see if there is spark.

QUESTION: yes there is a spark

Answer
Spark is good.  The fuel maybe stale.  How old is the fuel?

Have you removed the air filter and tried starting the engine by priming the carb?  I use a small squirt bottle, like those old ketchup bottles with the tapered tip, to squirt a little gas directly into the carburetor.  Works great and you know the problem is fuel/carb related if the engine tries to start after priming.

Let me know if it tries to start.
